About Jason Lyle Black

Background

Jason was born and raised in Livermore, California. He is currently a freshmen studying at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Jason plans to attend law school and pursue a career as a government lawyer.

Musical training

Jason studied piano for 9 years with Mary Beth Cheney of Livermore, California. He also studied trumpet for many years with Randy Watson of Livermore. Jason studied at the collegiate level on both instruments, working with Roy Bogas of Holy Names College on piano and Jay Rizzetto of CSU East Bay on trumpet. Jason has also studied with faculty from Brigham Young University on the organ, trumpet, and piano.

Composing

Jason has been composing music for almost 3 years. His principal styles are new age piano music and inspirational vocal music, though he also writes electronic music and classical/modern piano music as well.

Concert production

Jason has volunteered many hours for concert production. In March he worked with Leila Beach and Chian Gong to produce a benefit concert for the tsunami victims with Livermore musicians. As a member of BYUSA, he is currently serving as the event lead for the February Concert Series at BYU, featuring popular LDS artists Jon Schmidt and Greg Simpson.
